Happy New Year!
School was back in session on Monday, January 2. Additional dates to remember in January are as follows:
January 16 – Martin Luther King, Jr. day – no school
January 19 – End of first semester
January 20 – Records day for teachers – no school for students
Cell Phone Recycling
Don’t trash your cell phone – recycle it! Throughout the month of January our schools will be collecting old and unused cell phones for recycling. Through a partnership with E-Cycle our schools will offer the community a way to responsibly dispose of unused cell phones. Collection bins will be located in all three school buildings and at the administration office. The bins will be kept in secure locations inside the office areas of each building. Collected phones will be shipped to E-Cycle for safe and secure recycling. E-Cycle will also purchase phones that are on their current price list. Any monies returned to the school district through cell phone recycling effort will be used to establish a pay-to-participate scholarship fund for students in need. We hope that you will consider participating in this worthwhile project.
What is a Blog?
The definition of a “blog” is: a Web site that contains an online personal journal with reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer; also : the contents of such a site.
In order to better communicate with residents, we will be offering this article not only in the Photojournal, but also on our website in the form of a blog beginning this month. I will monitor your feedback and look forward to hearing your suggestions for improvement of our schools.
School Security
Now that 2012 is upon us, we believe that it is time to revisit and discuss the security procedures within our school district. Each day it is common to hear about tragedies that are the result of violent behavior. In the coming months we will be working with staff and students to reinforce our existing security procedures and to conduct drills that will help us be fully prepared. Our School Resource officer will assist us by suggesting any improvements or changes that may need to be made. We will communicate any improvements to parents as necessary.
The fundamental basis for any good security program begins with having accurate information from our parents. If there are changes in your family contact information, please make it your top priority in the next few weeks to call or email the school to provide any and all information that can be used to contact you in the event of an emergency. It may seem like a minor detail, but if a catastrophic event should occur, time will be of the essence. Accurate phone numbers will help us get up-to-date information to you as quickly as possible. Please call or email the main office of your child’s school to make your changes.
