SCHOOL ZONE 4-2-15

VHS MUSICAL A SUCCESS
Congratulations to our music and drama departments for a successful presentation of “Anything Goes”.  I hope many of you were able to see the show this year.  The student performances were outstanding.  We are very proud of our team of music and drama instructors for the exceptional programming they offer our community throughout the year.

AUDITORIUM RENOVATION
The Vermilion Board of Education recognized the need to upgrade our auditorium and allocated enough money for basic renovations.  We are asking for help from the community to transform the auditorium into a performing arts venue that lives up to Vermilion’s tradition of excellence in music and theater.  There are two ways community members can participate.  A donation of $100 will purchase an armchair plaque that will be engraved with your dedication, and embedded into the arm of each auditorium seat.  For a donation of $200 your name or memorial will be etched onto a large plaque that will be permanent affixed to the wall outside the auditorium doors.  Money raised through these programs will be used to support the drama, music and art programs in all schools.  More information and registration forms are available on our website, www.vermilionschools.org.  Heidi Riddle is coordinating this project.  Please email her at hriddle@vermilionschools.org with any questions.

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE
I was asked to remind all Vermilion High School Seniors and parents/guardians interested in applying for scholarships available through Vermilion Schools that the scholarship applications are due in the Student Services office no later than Monday, April 6, 2015 at 3:00 PM.  Please check the qualifications for each scholarship, and make sure that all required letters of recommendation and essays are attached to your application.

FINE ARTS FAIR
The annual Fine Arts Fair is coming up on Friday, April 17, and will be held this year at Vermilion High School.  This has become one of our most popular annual events, and showcases great artwork from students of all ages.   The show starts at 3:00 PM, with the silent auction at 5:30 PM.  The auction will feature some donated works, as well.

SUMMER SCHOOL 2015
Vermilion High School recently announced the summer school schedule for this year.  Summer school will be held from June 8 to June 25, 2015.    Registration will begin on May 1.  All summer school classes will be held in the Workforce Development classrooms at VHS, 1250 Sanford Street, Vermilion.  Please click on the link below to download the brochure and enrollment form.  Summer school is for remediation purposes only (with the exception of PE). Students may take a course if it was previously failed during the school year.  All summer school registrations must be approved by a school counselor in order to register for the class.  Final grade sheets will be mailed to the student’s home address. A copy will be provided to the high school office and/or school counselor.  Please visit our website, www.vermilionschools.org and click the Vermilion High School page to download registration forms.
