We had an amazing start to the school year
last week with very few challenges. I
would like to give a shout out to our secretaries, custodians, transportation
and maintenance staff who worked all summer with our administrators to order
supplies, clean buildings, complete repairs and ready buses for our returning
students. Our buildings, grounds and
buses are a testament to our students and the community that supports
them. We believe that Vermilion is a great
place to raise children, and we strive to offer superior educational
opportunities at all grade levels.
Please feel free to visit us to see for yourself what we have to
offer.
The return to school signals the start of
the fall sports season. Fall activities
include golf, girls tennis, boys and girls soccer, volleyball, cross country,
cheerleading, marching band, flag corps and football. The students are very talented and would love
to share their success with you. A
calendar of events is posted on our district website. We hope that you will come out and support
all of our teams at one of the many competitions held on campus. This Friday please join us for the first home
football game of the season, where we will dedicate the new scoreboard that was
made possible through a generous donation from Pat O’Brien.
At the State level, the Ohio
Department of Education is actively engaging with stakeholders, school leaders,
teachers and parents as the department works to develop the state’s Every Student
Succeeds Act (ESSA) plan. In an effort to reach out to more Ohioans about these
important issues, the department created a survey to get feedback on several
focus areas within ESSA.
The survey can be found at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/OhioESSA
In an article in the future I will
discuss ODE’s testing process and teacher accountability system. Welcome back and have a great year!
